Important Information for G5 AED Owners & Users
⚠️ URGENT: ZOLL Powerheart® G5 AED Correction – Action Required
ZOLL has issued an urgent correction for Powerheart® G5 AEDs due to a self-test error (EC 501) that could prevent the device from delivering a shock. The issue is linked to humidity exposure beyond the device’s specifications. Check your AED immediately and ensure it is stored within proper conditions.
What is EC 501?
EC 501 is an error code that may appear due to various factors, with the most likely cause being exposure to humidity outside the device’s recommended specifications. To prevent this issue, ensure that your AED is stored in an appropriate environment:
- Temperature: 32°F to 122°F
- Humidity: 10% to 95% (non-condensing)
What Happens When EC 501 Appears?
If the Powerheart® G5 detects EC 501 during its automated self-test, the device will become non-operational and unable to deliver lifesaving therapy.
How to Determine If a Self-Test Error Requires ZOLL Service
1. Check the Rescue Ready Indicator (Red X):
- If there IS a red indicator next to the gear icon, the AED must be returned to ZOLL for servicing.
- The device will also display or announce: “SERVICE REQUIRED, CONTACT TECHNICAL SUPPORT.”
2. If There Is No Red Indicator Next to the Gear Icon:
- First, verify that both the Intellisense pads and battery pack are not expired.
- After completing this check, if necessary, clear the red indicator by pressing and holding both softkeys on the device.
👉 If your device shows EC 501 (as described in option 1), remove it from service and contact ZOLL support.
